MATERIALITY AND AESTHETICS OF CIRCULARITY
The C3/C5 lecture series wishes to explore how architecture (urbanism and landscape architecture) can potentially contribute to freedom when it is operating in particular situations anew. The way you can achieve situated freedom in architecture - is argued - is through the field of aesthetics. Here aesthetics is not a question of beautification but of the sensible, how bodies and objects relate in the world. In line with Jacques Rancière aesthetics is understood as the effective medium through which things, objects, human and non-humans register the proximity of each other. Deep attunement to objects, surface, space (events), material, tectonics is where the profession is at as political practice. Unfortunately, a lot of contemporary debate in architecture today – rightfully so caring for the world - ignores the aesthetic dimension of architecture all together, in other words the politics of architecture itself; how architecture through its own zone of competence can potentially contribute to situated freedom.
