2008 Independent research on the Open Work, and the idea of the Open City. Honoured by a grant from the Dutch ‘stimuleringfonds voor BeeldendeKunst, Vormgeving en Bouwkunst’ (fonds BKVB) In 2008 I started my own research on the topic of the Open Work and the idea of the Open City, with a special focus on the (Modernist) architecture of Latin America.

ARCHITECTURE

2011-current study centre at Leiden University library. Client: Leiden University library. Redesigning the complete interior of the first floor study spaces, creating 700 student workspaces and all the surrounding facilities.

2010 Russian centre at Leiden University library. Client: Leiden University library and Russkiy Mir Foundation, Moskow Proposal for a study centre for Russian language and literature at the first floor of the university library. Inspired by the work of El Lissitky; his Russian Proun concept, I proposed a ‘open dynamic space’ around which the collection can be accessed.

2009 Exhibition ‘Staten Generaal Digitaal’. Client: Staten Generaal Digitaal and Koninklijke bibliotheek (Royal library), Den Haag. Design execution of 20 open frame constructions to facilitate the A1 panels of the exhibition.

2008-2010 Design for the study hall at Leiden University library. Client: Leiden University library Redesigning of the complete interior of the main study hall at the Leiden university library. Creating 200 student places and all surrounding facilities.

TEACHING

2010-2011 Education developer and teacher of the second year bachelors at Umeå school of Architecture.

2009 Masterclass Transvaal, Amsterdam. Client: State architect Organisation, development and production of a master class on the topic of the so called problem area’s in the cities of the Netherlands. In these areas, often new towns outside the centre of Dutch cities, live the poor, and many immigrants in badly maintained urban areas. Different design and urban strategies were developed for these so called ‘Probleemwijken’ by a group of 30 young architects and 3 well know Dutch architecture offices. So far exhibitions and symposia (Dutch Architecture Institute, NAi) have taken place. Politicians, housing corporations, inhabitants, urban planners, architects and developers, participated in the debate on the future scenario’s developed in the master class. A publication is in preparation.

2008 Research on the development of the curriculum of the educational program ‘het Experiment’. Client: State architect Researching what literature existed on the professionalization of the architect after their initial university degree. And development of an outline for a future publication on this matter and discussion, including documentation of the educational experience, the state architect initiated with the so called “het Experiment” expertise, in architecture.

2004 Project team workshop Terraventure. Development of the concept ”High-rise and fragment” for the workshop in Barcelona in collaboration with Terraventure and Wiel Arets (master of the workshop). The master class was a coproduction of the TU Delft and the ETSAB Barcelona and dealt with the question of living in the city and living in High-rise. Visiting critic was Acebillo who was in charge of the urban planning of Barcelona after Oriol Bohigas.

2008 Chief editor publication: ‘iDeal’ Young architects about ideals in Architecture. Client: State architect Development of the concept, design and execution of this publication. Including an interview with Jo Coenen (state architect at the time) and Ole Bouman (director Dutch Architecture Institute) about the future role of the architect. Furthermore I have written one of the two main articles in this publication on the future responsibility of the architect and the unique capacity architecture has as societal practice entitled: ‘A call for action, no reality without friction”.
